Head back in time to the Colonial era
If there’s one city to experience the history of Virginia, it’s Williamsburg. Home to one of the biggest and most complete living-history museums in the world, Colonial Williamsburg, this is just the start of the city’s fascinating and historical attractions. For instance, you could venture to Jamestown Settlement to see recreations of America’s first permanent English colony, or take a tour of the old taverns and inns that were once a vital part of the city’s lifestyle in the 18th century.
Williamsburg packs a punch when it comes to the food and drink scene, too. Stroll along the Williamsburg Tasting Trail and stop by the plethora of local breweries, distilleries and wineries that show you just why Virginia has become one of the most well-known states for trying innovative locally-made beverages. There’s a myriad of restaurants to try too, from the tiny family-run bakeries, to the contemporary restaurants full of flair.
Work it all off with a wide range of great sports. Who knew Williamsburg was such an active destination? Practice your swing on one of the sweeping golf courses, grab a kayak and take to the water, or hike along the scenic Greensprings Greenway Interpretive Trail. No matter what you decide to do, you’re guaranteed an interesting stay in Williamsburg.
