Pardon me boy, is that the Chattanooga choo-chooo…The terminal station is now part of a hotel however you can catch the steam train at Grand Junction Station and travel along one of the original railroad lines in Chattanooga (crossing four bridges and passing through pre-Civil War Missionary Ridge Tunnel).
Chattanooga is more than just a line in a song, or a ride on a steam train. If you are passing through on your self-drive, you may like to consider other opportunities around the area.
You could try rock climbing, road and mountain biking, hiking, white-water rafting, hang gliding and more, all within a short drive of downtown Chattanooga. For the less adrenaline fuelled take a bike ride or leisurely stroll down Chattanooga’s beautiful 13-mile Riverwalk that runs along the Tennessee River or simply enjoy a picnic in one of the many parks.
The Southern Belle steam boat which operates along Tennessee River is a relaxing way to view the area. You really should visit Lookout Mountain and Ruby Falls; take the incline railway if you dare! It’s well worth it though to visit the battlefields at the top from the Civil war.
