A family-friendly destination full of history and outdoor recreation

South Carolina’s low country provides some of the most scenic and irresistible places to stay for a little while. If you are planning to zip through on your self-drive tour of the area, we urge you to reconsider and explore Charleston.

Aside from award winning gold courses and associations with the PGA, Charleston is an historic town; right on the beach with a number of attractions, which in our opinion, makes a stay here worthwhile.

The beach presents wide open spaces for the whole family to have a good run around and swim. Alternatively take to a kayak and paddle through the wetlands and reed beds of the barrier islands, bird spotting. If you have no luck, try the birds of prey centre where over 100 birds from 40+ species are involved in an enormous conservation project.

USS Yorktown, an enormous naval ship is open to visitors, alternatively try “museum mile”, with any number of opportunities to learn of the history of the area. One of the museums is outdoor and recreates the settlers history, complete with native wildlife and functioning cannons! The aquarium provides lots of “animal encounters” which are scheduled daily.

Alternatively take a horse drawn carriage around town, looking at all the historical buildings, or try the tram. Charleston’s restaurant week is between 10-20 January each year, when over 140 of the town’s restaurants get involved.
