Philadelphia and Washington DC

6 nights from €1,379 per person Including Flights

Overview

We love this tailormade holiday, twinning two of America’s most walkable cities. It’s just a short flight to Philadelphia then an easy train ride to Washington DC.
Philadelphia is well known for its cultural heritage, and has 67 National Historical Landmarks in its historic square mile, so it’s simple to capture all the sights with a short walking tour. Visit Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution were debated and adopted. Make sure you see the Liberty Bell, the symbol of American independence that was once located in the steeple of Independence Hall. Take time to stroll Elfreth’s Alley, the oldest continuously inhabited residential street in America.

Then take a two hour train ride to Washington DC. The city is filled with superb museums, fascinating memorials and striking landmarks. You can walk all the way from the US Capitol through pleasant lawned gardens to the Smithsoneon Museums then onto the Washington Monument, continuing along the Reflecting Pool to the Lincoln Memorial.  You might want to pick up one of the tour buses which loop through the neighbourhoods, taking in the Pentagon, Arlington Cemetry and Georgetown - a lovely place for a relaxing evening meal. After two days in DC it's time to fly home, unless you want to extend your American adventure with a visit to another city.
