Eating, Drinking & Nightlife in Hawaii
Eating
Interestingly, alongside the abundance of fresh seafood, spam is readily available – the locals love it! Of course, you will find some more authentic Hawaiian foods as well, typically served at a luau (feast). Be sure to try such classics as laulau, which is pork or fish steamed in taro leaves, kalua pig which is pork wrapped in banana leaves and steamed with the resulting product similar to pulled pork, or poi which is mashed taro root. Tropical fruits can also be found everywhere, such as guavas, papaya and mangos.
Drinking
Beer is popular here and there are plenty of fantastic brewpubs dotted across the islands. If you head to Downtown Honalulu and Chinatown, you’ll also find some great bars and clubs. Waikiki is packed with live music venues, where you can relax with a drink and chat to the locals.
