Things To Do and Excursions in San Francisco
Shopping
Vintage, designer and anywhere in between, there are some really great boutiques and shopping centres in the city. Head Downtown for some unique stores – check out the Crocker Galleria which offers three levels of retail and restaurants. In Chinatown, one of the most popular areas for shopping, you’ll find some quirky venues for splashing the cash, as well as a host of spectacular Chinese restaurants. And you can’t shop in San Francisco without stopping by Union Square, which is one of the largest shopping areas in the U.S.
Museums and Galleries
The cultural aspect of the city is hard to ignore, with a host of amazing galleries and museums to explore during your stay. The Museum of Modern Art is a must, home to collections by Duchamp, Magritte and Mondrian, to name just a few. The Asian Art Museum is also an interesting venue where you can explore over 17,000 Asian treasures. The California Academy of Sciences is an amazing combination of planetarium, aquarium and natural history museum – there really is something to fascinate everyone in this quirky venue, which is found in Golden Gate Park.
Sport
Baseball is a typically San Fran experience, so whether you’re a sports enthusiast or not, this is a fun day out. The Downtown stadium is where you’ll find the Giants, so grab a drink and a hot dog and prepare for an exciting couple of hours.
Films
Films and cinemas are popular here, and the city even hosts a couple of festivals. If you’re travelling during the summer months, it’s well worth finding some of the open-air cinemas and taking a picnic along for a family-friendly activity to entertain young and old alike.
