Los Angeles Restaurants
Whether you’re looking to try the traditional French dip sandwich, or fancy indulging in sumptuous international cuisine, Los Angeles is a gourmand’s paradise. Whenever you visit the city, you certainly won’t go hungry.
French dip sandwiches
Los Angeles lunchtime dining is synonymous with one particular meal: the French dip sandwich. Philippe the original is regarded by many as the home of the French dipped sandwich: a sandwich of roast beef, pork, lamb, ham or turkey, dipped in gravy. Choose from ‘single dip’, ‘double dip’, or ‘wet’, depending on how juicy you like your sandwiches!
International cuisine
If there’s one thing Americans know how to do, it is steak houses, and you’ll be spoilt for choice in LA. Wolfgang Puck’s Cut in the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons hotel is a steak house for those who enjoy fine dining surrounded by beautiful art. The Palm, with one restaurant in West Hollywood and one Downtown, is as famed for its steaks as it is for its seafood, plus its celebrity clientele. For a taste of historical LA, The Musso and Frank Grill, reportedly the oldest restaurant in Hollywood, offers renowned steaks and sandwiches, plus traditional daily features of the classic corned beef and cabbage, sauerbraten and homemade chicken pot pie.
Where LA really shines, however, is its abundance of restaurants offering international cuisine. If you’re looking to splash out on delicious Asian food, why not try Yamashiro in Hollywood, which is one of the most highly regarded restaurants in LA. For a celebration of the exotically tropical, why not try the ‘over-the-top’ Monsoon cafe. The fabulous selection of Japanese restaurants continues, with the likes of Hirozen and Matsuhisa.
With the delectable selection of Asian restaurants, plus the many offering Italian and Spanish cuisine, Los Angeles has dining from around the globe covered.
Celebrity restaurants
Hollywood stars have a history of opening or investing in one of the city’s many restaurants and bars. For example, Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria is involved with the glamorous Beso, while Ashton Kutcher invested in the Dolce Group, who have opened the world-renowned Japanese restaurant Geisha House.
If you want to get in a bit of star spotting while dining in LA, then you can’t go wrong with lunching outside at The Ivy in Beverly Hills. Other favourite celebrity haunts include the exclusive but popular Mr Chow in North Camden Drive, or the lavish Cafe La Boheme on Santa Monica Boulevard. Many of the city’s popular restaurants are frequented by celebrities – this is Hollywood after all. Keep your eyes open long enough and you are very likely to spot someone you recognise!
